Can Malone Kayak Carrier Trailers Speed Rating Increase

Question:

been hauling our 2 Hobie kayaks using Thule Hull a Port Pros on a 4Runner. Time for us to get a trailer. Looking at the Rack and Roll, Malone or Magic Tilt. Reading your site, reviews, videos, etc, still have a couple specific questions: 1. I travel a LOT, almost all interstate, 70-75 MPH posted speed limits. Your text states something like 65 mph is the upper limit. Can you put higher speed rated tires on the Yakima and Malone so I can stay safely with the traffic? In FL and TX, going 65 will get you killed. 2. Will the Yakima bars take Thule Hull a Ports? I have read where the round Yakima bars wont allow Thules lock down properly and will allow J hooks to rotate. 3. There are LOTS of Malone versions, but is there only one with the retractable tongue? I would like to be able to store the trailer in a garage up against a wall. Thanks in advance!

Since you are looking for a trailer that has a retractable tongue for easier storage the best trailer is the Malone Trailer part # MPG460XT. You can use the retractable tongue kit part # MPG494 to convert the part # MPG460G to basically the part # MPG460XT but that's not really the best route. Thule kayak carriers like the TH848 can install on the square bars of this trailer.

The tires of the trailer are limited to 65 mph, but you could could add different tires with a higher speed rating such as # TT48012C which are rated for 81 miles per hour and 990 pounds at 90 psi. But the tires would have to be purchased separately because we can't swap out the ones that come with it for different tires.
