Roof Rack and Kayak Rack Recommendation for 2014 Chevy Volt
Question:
Vehicle: 2014 Chev Volt naked roof. Crossbars apparently mount only 27 inches apart, too close for stability. Vehicle is only rated for 1-1/4 hitch. I’d like to carry 2 kayaks. I was thinking of attaching front to a single crossbar and rear to a 1-1/4 extender. It seems like it would need some kind of diagonal bracing for strength and stability. Any recommendations?

The spread of the Inno roof racks like the part numbers # INXB123-130, # INXS250, and # INK624 is narrower at 26 inches but this still is the best option for carrying two kayaks like witih the Yakima JayLow part # Y04073 which can carry up to 2 kayaks.
The JayLow comes with straps for one kayak. So for additional straps you'd want to use the part # Y04031 and you'd be set.
None of the hitch mounted load supports we carry fit 1-1/4 inch trailer hitches.
