Programmer Recommendation to Prevent 2003 Ford F-250 Downshifting When Towing
Question:
My vehicle. 2003 f 250 5.4 mtr w lance 815. Any little hill or overpass will kick trans out of overdrive to direct even on cruise. Will an engine programmer do anything? Only have 100,000 miles on tk and new ford reman trans. Seems like a little more power would keep it in overdrive?

Since the kickdown mechanism of your truck is based on throttle position if you had a bit more torque you wouldn't need to push the accelerator down quite as far which would prevent the down shifting to a certain extent.
For your 2003 F-250 with a 5.4 liter the Superchips programmer part # SU1845 is a confirmed fit and can give you up to an additional 49 ft lbs of torque. That's a substantial enough amount that your truck will noticeably not kick down out of overdrive as much.
