Troubleshooting Trailer Running Lights Not Working with 2006 Nissan Murano

Question:

Have power to turn signals but none to the running lights. I checked all connections, they are good and tight, but no power coming from the new unit, any ideas.

There are a few possible reasons why the trailer running lights aren't working with the connector on your 2006 Nissan Murano.

It sounds like you may have already done this, but if not, I recommend starting by testing the connector itself on your Murano with a circuit tester like # PTW2993. Test the running lights pin on the connector with this function activated on the vehicle to see if you get power there. If you don't get power, you at least know the issue is somewhere on the vehicle. If you do get power, then the problem is actually somewhere on the trailer.

If you don't get power at the connector, you can start by making sure you don't have a blown or missing fuse related to the trailer running light circuit. Take a look at your owner's manual for the appropriate fuse and relay loctions.

Next make sure the wiring harness is securely grounded. A weak ground can sometimes cause the issue you are having, where it is only allowing enough power through to activate the signal lights but not enough to also power the runnings lights on top of that. Make sure the ground wire is attached to a clean, corrosion free bare metal surface.

If you still can't find the issue, please let me know and we can continue to troubleshoot. I have also attached an article on wiring troubleshooting that you might find helpful.
