Towing Compatibility of 1969 Cadillac DeVille
Question:
Can a 1969 Cadillac DeVille pull and stop a 2500lb. Travel trailer?

Expert Reply:
The large motors in those old Cadillacs (in your case the 7.7L V8) will allow you to tow a trailer that is 2,500 lbs. If your vehicle brakes are in good working order you will be able to stop a fully loaded trailer that size as well. Anything larger, and I'd definitely recommend using a brake controller like # 90195 and that would be the best route if your travel trailer has brakes anyway. If that is the case let me know and I'll help you get the wiring you need as this is the safest route and my recommendation.
It would be a good idea to add a transmission cooler like # D13503 which is a confirmed fit for your Cadillac. This will help to cool the fluid so your transmission doesn't have to work so hard when towing, but is also a benefit for regular driving. The Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting for GM # D13035 will make this installation easy.
