Help Backing Up Travel Trailer on 2017 Ram 2500

Question:

Can I use the Draw-Tite or Curt front hitch on my 2017 Ram 2500 to help me back up my travel trailer in my back yard? The trailer weighs 7500 lbs dry and the tongue weight is 800 lbs. Each time I use it, I will be going 2-3 mph for 150 ft. I understand that the 800 lb tongue weight is beyond the 500 lb spec, but Im wondering if I can safely use it for such a short distance and low speed.

Even at a short distance and going slowly, I do not recommend using a front hitch like the Curt # C31015 on your 2017 Ram 2500 to help back up your travel trailer because your trailer's tongue weight is well over capacity and it simply would not be safe.

The best option for you is a back-up camera, the Rear View Safety Wireless Hitch Camera # RVS-83112. This is an easy to use system that suits your needs perfectly, with the camera having a magnetic base you can attach up to 70' away from the monitor, which has a 3-1/2" display and plugs into your truck's cigarette lighter (accessory outlet). The camera has a viewing angle of 120 degrees and infrared lights for 30' of night vision should you need to move your travel trailer after the sun goes down.
