Can Truck with Gooseneck Hitch Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer

Question:

Hi I was hoping that you could tell me whether I would be able to change out a gooseneck hitch for a fifth wheel hitch. I am in the market for a truck right now and I have noticed a lot of trucks that have a gooseneck hitch. So my question is if there are rails in the bed of the truck for a gooseneck hitch can I just take off the gooseneck hitch and use the rails that are already in the bed for the new fifth wheel hitch? I am currently looking at a one Ton dually truck and I will be pulling a 15,000 pound fifth wheel. Could you please recommend a fifth wheel hitch that has decent value and is not super expensive but will get the job done? And my last question is can I install the fifth wheel hitch on my own if the rails are already in the bed of the truck and how long will that take approximately?

Typically a gooseneck hitch setup would need to be totally removed to install a fifth wheel rail kit as they will both use the frame area for install. However, if you find a truck that has the popular B and W gooseneck hitch we have hitches that will fit them directly as the Companion part # BWRVK3400 for a slider (if you have a short bed), or the part # BWRVK3500 for a fixed hitch (if you get a long bed).

Now if the hitch is not a B and W and is also a long bed you could pretty simply use an adapter like part # CAB-C5G and you'd be able to tow a fifth wheel trailer with a gooseneck trailer. If it's a short bed then you'd basically have to swap to the fifth wheel rail kit.

The rail kit part # RP30035 that you referenced is a universal rail kit that fits most trucks out there.
