Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2007 Ford Ranger with Step Bumper

Question:

I have 2007 3.0 ford ranger it’s not a 4x4. I’m towing a Rockwood freedom pop up camper Ltd 1940. Label on camper says. GVWR/2,381 UVW/1,656 does not have generator. CCC/611 lbs. manual calls for class 2. Will your E-S3 work or do I need part 13138?? My truck has a step bumper with a 2” ball I towed it on the bumper ball about 15 miles. Seemed ok. Lol Thanks

The Curt 2" Trailer Hitch - Bumper Mount - 8-3/4" Bolt Pattern - 5,000 lbs GTW # E-3S is not a custom fit hitch but it will work for your application on your 2007 Ford Ranger. Your bumper capacity will remain your towing capacity when using this hitch.

The Curt # 13138 is a much stronger option that attaches to your frame instead of the bumper. It will be a much better option for most towing and for other accessories, so it is my recommendation even though the # E-3S will work for your trailer.

With whatever option you choose, I also recommend the etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches # 989900. This will give you ball mount options as well as hitch ball options for other trailers. If you don't already have trailer wiring, then I recommend the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM40655. This harness plugs into your facotyr wiring harness located behind your tail lights.
