I did some checking and you can safely flat tow your 1998 Nissan Frontier 4x4 with a 5 speed manual transmission as-is without damaging any transmission components.
The Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit # 327-1 that you referenced would also be the correct base plate kit for your vehicle.
When choosing a tow bar, you will need one that is compatible with EZ base plates. I recommend the Roadmaster Stowmaster Tow Bar, # RM-501. I have included a link to the installation details and a link to a video review for you to view.
The next component you will need to flat tow the vehicle is lighting. There are actually several lighting methods depending on your needs and how often you will be towing the vehicle. I have included a link to our series of FAQ articles on flat towing, some of which cover choosing the best lighting for your needs.
And finally, most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being towed. The easiest to install and use is the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System, # RM-9400. This unit activates the brakes on the vehicle being towed in proportion to how much the RV is braking. This is the safest type of braking action and it reduces wear and tear on the RV and towed vehicle brakes.
You will also want to check the vehicle owners manual for additional information on flat towing the vehicle.
