How to Manually Adjust Dexter Electric Brake Assemblies

Question:

Im trying to manually adjust my TT drum brakes on a keystone carbon 33 toy hauler and I spun the cog all the way in and out and the brakes never seem to get tighter. What am I doing wrong?

In order to properly adjust the Dexter electric brake assemblies on your travel trailer, you will first need to raise the trailer and check that the wheel and drum rotate freely. Remove the adjusting hole cover from the slot on the bottom of the assembly's backing plate. With an adjusting tool like # W80630, rotate the starwheel of the adjuster assembly to expand the brake shoes. You will just need to adjust the brake shoes out until the pressure of the linings against the drum makes the wheel difficult to turn. Once you get to this point, rotate the starwheel in the opposite direction until the wheel turns freely with only a slight drag.

When pulling the hub, also check the screw and the brake pads to make sure everything is in good condition.

I have attached a video demonstration on this process that you can also check out. Just skip ahead to the 4:40 mark which is when the installer starts to adjust the brakes.
