Correct Weight Distribution System for a Sunset Park Sun-Lite 16BH
Question:
I have a 2015 V6 Equinox with 3500 tow capacity and 350 TW capacity. This vehicle also has the optional 18inch tires but this may not matter in the equation. My Travel trailer is a Sun-Lite 16BH, dry weight 2600lbs. and tongue weight 182. Full propane tanks and battery will add 80 lbs. to my TW. The unit has front pass thru storage so I believe that will add to the TW also. Im looking for the correct size Weight distribution hitch with sway control. Currently when the TT is hitched to the Equinox there is very little in the rear. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You

The correct weight distribution system for your 2015 Chevrolet Equinox and Sunset Park Sun-Lite 16BH is going to need to be based off of the total tongue weight. The total tongue weight is calculated by adding the loaded ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer to any cargo stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. The best and easiest way to determine the tongue weight of the trailer would be with a scale like part # e99044.
However, based on the information I was provided I believe I can accurately estimate that the tongue weight of your trailer will be around 300-400 lbs. If this is the case and your total tongue weight does not exceed 600 lbs then I recommend the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System part # RP66558 which is the updated version of the Reese SC Weight Distribution System that you were looking at. The Steadi-Flex is a quality system that has trunnion spring bars which will give you the ground clearance you need. It also has integrated sway control to help keep the trailer steady.
I have attached a review/install video on the above system for you as well.
