Do Electric Trailer Brakes Work in Both Directions?
Question:
23-468-469 ELECTRIC BRAKES 3500 LBS DOES BRAKES WORK IN BOTH DIRECTIONS?
asked by: Reggie
Expert Reply:
The Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-468-469 will work in both direction. The only brake assemblies that don't work in both directions are some of the hydraulic brake assemblies that are designed for free-backing like # AKFBBRK-35.
The only thing to be aware with electric brakes is the trailer brakes will work based on the controller being used, so if you have a proportional controller, the maneuvering of your trailer will not have extremely strong brakes unless you are moving faster or using the manual override feature because the braking pressure without the manual override is proportionate to your speed. It still will have proportionate braking power, so you don't need the manual override slide unless you need to stop suddenly.
