How to Transport Bikes with 2017 Toyota Prius Prime
Question:
What bike carrier would you recommend for the Prius Prime 2017? Its a bit different than the non-prime Prius in that the hatch is carbon fiber and the glass extends up further. Thanks for your help.

I do have a solution for you, however there is not a trunk-mount bike rack available that is confirmed to fit your 2017 Toyota Prius Prime for exactly the reasons you mentioned. Its hatch construction and design prevents a secure fit with a trunk-mounted carrier.
Your best option for transporting bikes with your Prius Prime is with a trailer hitch and hitch-mounted rack. For a trailer hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24966. This Class I hitch is confirmed to fit your Prius Prime and will use existing holes in its frame for a no-drill installation.
I have attached an installation video on your vehicle that you can use for reference.
When choosing a bike rack, you will just need to make sure that it is compatible with Class I hitches. Also keep in mind that the most bikes a Class I hitch can safely support is 2.
I recommend taking a look at the Swagman XTC-2 # S64670. This platform-style, 2-bike rack is Class I compatible and can secure 2 bikes of up to 35 pounds each. It features a wheel-mount design and ratcheting hooks that will clamp down on the bike frame for easy loading. You can add the Hitch and Cable Lock Set # S64031 to secure everything into place and help deter theft.
I have attached a short video demonstration on this rack, along with a link that will take you to our available selection of Class I compatible bike racks that you can look through.
