Is the Snug-Tite Lock Required for the Thule Hitching Post Pro Bike rack

Question:

Hello, I’m wondering about the suggested add-on of the snug tite hitch lock and anti-rattle. Is this for safety or anti-theft? Not sure if it’s completely necessary to add and would like some additional info. Thanks! P.S. I have a 2013 Chrysler town and country

The Snug-Tite lock # THSTL2 for various Thule bike racks, including the Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR, is not required. The rack comes with a threaded hitch bolt to stabilize and secure the rack in the trailer hitch. The lock replaces the hitch bolt and adds a locking feature to deter theft of the bike rack. It is up to you if you want to add it or not.

Another option, when you have bikes loaded, is to use a cable lock such as # e98891 routed through the bikes and the safety chain loops on the trailer hitch. Again it is not required but it will deter theft of the bikes and the rack.
