Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch and Install Kit for a 1997 Ford F-250 Long Bed
Question:
Hello, We have a 97 F250 4x4 HD long bed. A previous owner had installed a 5th wheel hitch, however when we purchased the truck everything was removed with the exception of the under bed frame brackets that are welded to the frame not bolted. We want to purchase a hitch but have no idea what would fit the current brackets and bed holes assuming they are not all the same dimension wise. Is it possible provide dimension of the hole pattern to find out what would bolt up? Thank You.

The best option I have for you to install a 5th wheel hitch in the bed of your 1997 Ford F-250 would be to cut off the brackets that are welded to the frame and install a new system with the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches part # RP30035. This kit will allow you to attach most 5th wheel hitches that use industry standard rails (ISR) like the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # RP30047.
Unfortunately, it would be very difficult for us to match the brackets you have welded to the frame of your truck to a set of above bed base rails as there are just too many different options. If cutting off the brackets is not something that you are comfortable with then I do recommend taking it to a shop for installation as the new kit will also require drilling into the frame.
