Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2006 Subaru Outback

Question:

Two Questions: 1 Does the Thule Gateway 3 Bike Carrier # TH78VR fit a 2006 Subaru Outback Wagon? 2 My husband and I have a Thule roof mount rack but my bike is too heavy for me to load on the roof top I am a 51 female, 105 lbs. so my husband always mounts our bikes. I want to start riding on my own and would like to know if the the TH9007XT is fairly easy to install and de-install when not in use? Thank you.

For your 2006 Subaru Outback Wagon you can use Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top rack # HRF2 or # HRF2-3. The Thule trunk mount bike racks will not fit. I have linked a video showing how the Over-The-Top racks work.

Other option is to install a trailer hitch. Since you will just want to carry the one bike, possibly 2 bikes, I recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 36334. This is a Class II trailer hitch with a 1-1/4 inch receiver. I have included a link to the installation details for you.

For a compatible bike rack, I recommend the Swagman Trailhead, # S63360. This bike rack is under 30 pounds, so you should be able to handle it. It also has anti-sway cradles and the ability to tilt down for greater access to the rear of the vehicle. I have included a link to the installation details for you to view.
