The Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 3-bike rack, part # HRF2-3, is a great rack, especially for vehicles with a rear hatch; however, I don't recommend leaving the rack on the vehicle when opening the hatch let alone leaving the bikes on the rack. A vehicle's rear hatch is not designed to support any weight at all when open and a rack that's left on an open hatch could fall, causing possible damage to the rack, vehicle, or anyone around it.

In addition if you're to open the hatch with bikes on the rack they would absolutely fall since they're only hanging by a single bar on the rack. The bikes will undoubtedly fall onto the hatch, at the least, causing damage to it, and they'll likely end up falling to the ground damaging the bikes.

To access your rear hatch you're better off using a hitch mounted rack. If you'd like to add a hitch let me know the year, make, and model of your vehicle and I'll recommend a hitch and compatible bike rack. In the end I think you'll be much happier going this route.
