Can Roadmaster High-Low Adapters be Used to Carry a Dirt Bike on a Toyota FJ Cruiser
Question:
I have a lifted Toyota FJ Cruiser with a 500 lb tongue weight limit. I bought a Roadmaster 6” hitch receiver from you guys, which arrived today. It has a 200 lb tongue weight limit. I want to put a 50 lb dirt bike carrier and 250 lb dirt bike on this setup. Will this safely work or do I need to get a hitch with a higher capacity. Thanks in advance.

Roadmaster High-Low Adapter # RM-076 that you purchased is only for use for flat towing a vehicle behind a motorhome primarily. Any accessories used would have to be under the 200 pound tongue weight capacity. Since the combined weight of your carrier and dirt bike is 300 pounds you would instead need to use adapter # RM-048-6.
However, the use of an adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch by 50 percent. If the tongue weight capacity of the Hitch on your FJ Cruiser maxes out at 500 pounds then by using the adapter it is reduced to 250 pounds and you will be over the capacity of the hitch.
For options are to put the dirt bike on a small trailer designed to carry one motorcycle or replace the hitch you have with one that has a higher tongue weight capacity (over 600 pounds) so you can use adapter # RM-048-6 and still be within the capacity. If you can tell me the year of your FJ Cruiser I can see if there are any trailer hitches with a tongue weight capacity over 600 pounds.
