Rear Suspension Enhancement Helper Springs for a 2014 Ram 1500 4x4

Question:

I am looking for some options to help alleviate the squat when I am connected to my trailer. Currently with stock suspension I am squatting 4inch when I am hooked up to my trailer. I would like to sit more level. The camper has a gross of 7700 lbs. I have a 2014 ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 that I am doing the towing with. I also dont want to change the empty ride. Suggestions please.

Usually the best way to combat vehicle squat is by using an appropriately rated weight distribution system. But on 1/2 ton trucks like your 2014 Ram 1500 weight distribution often isn't enough by itself to completely remove the squat. So we can start by looking at some suspension enhancement and if you still need additional support we can look into weight distribution.

For a jounce style helper spring that will have minimal effects on the empty ride quality I recommend the SumoSprings Solo # SSR-307-47. This is a softer jounce spring than some of the other options. Because of this it will have a low impact on ride quality but may still allow the truck to sag some when towing or carrying loads in the bed.

An air spring system such as # AL57365 will give you the most adjustability. It will take out the sag when you need to by increasing the air pressure. When empty you can lower the pressure to make the empty ride softer. If you decide to go with air springs I also recommend an on-board compressor kit # AL25592. This will allow you to adjust the air pressure as needed from the comfort of the truck cab without the need for an external compressor.
