Difference Between Trailer Tire Sizes 165/65-8 and 4.80-8

Question:

If I bought a 4.80/4.00-8 tire on a 4 hole rim through etrailer, could I use that instead of the ones that are on there now that are 165/65-8? Which one should I get?

The tire size 165/65-8 is .4 of an inch taller than the 4.80-8 tire size and fits a rim almost two inches wider. The sizes are very similar but the 165/65-8 size is a bit different. Either size tire requires a different width rim. We have replacements on rims like the part # AM3H200 for if you have a 4 bolt wheel or part # AM3H220 if you have a 5 bolt wheel.

Yes, you could go down to the smaller size and be fine. For that you could use the part # AM30000 which is the size 4.80-4.00-8 on a wheel with a 4 on 4 inch wheel.
