In regards to switching from a 185/80/13 Load Range D to 175/80/13 Radial Load Range C tires, it is sometimes a common switch that drivers make. I will advise you on differences you should be aware of. Some of the changes you will encounter when going from a tire like Loadstar ST185/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire Load Range D # AM1ST79 to a tire like the Provider ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire Load Range C # TTWTRTM1758013C is a slight change in the outer diameter, weight capacity, tire clearance and load range.

For example the outer diameter and weight capacity is 24.4" and 1710lbs on # AM1ST79 and on # TTWTRTM1758013C the outer diameter and weight is 24.02" and 1360lbs.

Be sure to make sure you are not overloading the tires or trailer. If there is excessive weight it will cause your tires to run hotter and could result in a blown tire. Please ensure that you are not loading them with more weight than they (and/or your trailer axle) is rated for.

In regard to tire clearance, the minimum distance between the inside of a tire and the frame rail depends a lot on the setup of the trailer. But as long as the tire and the frame don't touch you would be fine. You should have at least 2 inches from the sidewall to the trailer and at least 3 or 4 inches from the tread to the underside of the fender. If you have that clearance, then the tire size you have is fine.

When picking tires for your trailer I always recommend checking the plate on the trailer frame near the coupler. Some trailers may have the VIN, axle capacities, as well as the trailer tire size and Load Range recommended.

Please note that not all trailer tires with the same size will have the same load/speed/ and ply rating. For instance, you plan on going from a Load range D tire to a C range. For example the speed and ply rating on # AM1ST79 is 81 mph and 8 ply and on # TTWTRTM1758013C 81 miles per hour and 6 ply. Exceeding 81 miles per hour will also generate excessive heat. A higher ply tire is a bit more durable and can handle more weight.
