Troubleshooting Installation of Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller in 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
I had this mounted in a 2004 grand cheroke with no problems. Just purchased a 2009 grand cherokee this year. Both had the 4.7 engine. Installed my prodigy in the 2009 this week.It seems to be working in my yard. The manual lever works fine and I can see the current increase as I move the lever. When I step on the brake I get no current. The drive voltage goes from 0 to 4.5 volts when the pedal is depressed. Is this enough voltage or will I have to get a 12v switched source. There is no switched 12v at the brake switch.Guess I could use a brake light wire if I ran it up from the back.

For your Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 on your 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee since you have proper voltage when using your manual override, it sounds like you either aren't moving fast enough for the proportional controller to engage with the deceleration sensor to see a need for additional braking or you have a brake switch output issue. Most likely the first scenario is the issue. You can check your brake light switch to determine function using an incandescent circuit tester like # PTW2993. This will help you see the function to ensure the switch is working properly.
