On your 1998 Chevy C/K Pick-up truck, the center of the 5th wheel trailer hitch jaw should be 1-1/2 inches forward of the center of the rear axle. If you measure from that point back to the trailer connector, that will be the measurement you need.

If you determine that you need an extension, I recommend the 7-Way Connector, # 20027. You can plug one end into the 7-Way at the back of the vehicle, route the wire under the truck and up inside a side rail in the bed, and then mount the other end in the truck bed.
