What is the Purpose of the 2 Hitch Pin Holes on the Reese Weight Dist Shank # RP54970
Question:
Hi my Reese 54970 has a pin hole for both 1000 and 1200lb tongue weights? Why even bother with the 1000lb hole? Couldnt it only have the hole for 1200lbs? If I have a tongue weight under 1000 lbs will it tow better or something to use the lower rated hole? Thanks

Expert Reply:
The separate bolt holes on the Reese Weight Dist Shank # RP54970 exist in case you need a little bit of an extension. With less shank in the hitch receiver your tongue weight capacity is reduced so if you don't need that extra space simply use the higher weight tongue capacity.
