Installing Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller on a 2017 Jeep Wrangler with Factory 7-Way Connector
Question:
I already have my 2017 Jeep Wrangled Unlimited wired with a 7 pin hook up. I was going to install my new controller myself since your instuctional video IS performed on my year, make and model. My Jeep dealership, however, says to correctly install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional on my Jeep THEY will have to program the on board Jeep computer to work properly with it. For a cost of $300 labor. Is this correct?

To install the Prodigy P3, part # 90195, on your 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited all you need is to connect the wiring of the controller. Use our # 5506 kit to run the wires.
We've never seen a Jeep Wrangler that needs the computer programmed for towing. If your factory 7-way's lighting functions already work without even installing the brake controller you'll be fine because the controller is wired directly to the stop light switch and the 7-way; bypassing the computer. If the light functions do not already work on the 7-way then the computer will need to be programmed by Jeep. We see this a lot on the Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango but not the Wranglers.
