Where are the Brake Output and 12 Volt Power Wires on a 2010 Toyota Tacoma
Question:
I have installed a Reese brake controller and 7pin trailer connector on my 2010 Tacoma IN THE CAB:: I connected the Brake Controller with a Reese harness to the factory connector under the dash side panel on the drivers side. AT THE HITCH: I connected my new 7pin to the existing flat 4 pin now I need to locate the blue and black wires at the hitch end. Toyota says they are stored under the rear body but I cannot locate them. Any help in finding the point to connect the blue brake, and black 12volt,would be appreciated.

If your 2010 Toyota Tacoma came with a factory brake controller port under the dash then that means the vehicle should have already come with a 7-way trailer connector and all of the wires including the brake output and 12-volt power should be ran to the rear of the vehicle, under the bumper. The brake output wire is usually blue, and the 12-volt power wire is usually black but this is not always a guarantee so it will be important to test them for function with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993.
If the brake output and 12-volt power is not found at the rear of the vehicle under the rear bumper, then it may be tucked away near the spare tire but if it is not in this location then you may just need to run new wires using the Wiring Kit part # 5506. We have currently not installed a 7-way and brake controller on a 2010 Toyota Tacoma that came with a factory brake controller port under the dash therefore this is the only advice I have for you.
