Using a Hopkins Agility Brake Controller on a Motorcycle

Question:

Hi there. The system works well on my motorcycle for pulling a trailer which has electric brakes. This is in mock up stage only as the wiring for both the display, and manual slide controller to reach the smart box are not long enough. Are there extension cables marketed for this or will I need to splice additional length in myself? Im wanting to mount the smart box into the trunk or tour pack sidewall to allow both proper mounting orientation and weather integrity.

Unless your motorcycle is a trike then I do not recommend using any proportional brake controllers, including # HM47294. The problem is that proportional controllers use accelerometers or pendulums so they have to stay fairly level side to side to work properly. Since motorcycles lean it could cause erratic behavior which could lead to worse problems.

If it is a trike then that would be fine. There aren't longer wires pre-made for this so you would have to splice in additional wiring like you said.

If it is a regular bike then I recommend a time delay controller such as # 5504. Time delay controllers do not have to stay level so leaning side to side while riding will not affect the performance.
