2006 Ford Explorer with 4-Way Brake Controller Recommendation

Question:

Trying to figure out what is needed for a brake controller on an 06 Explorer Eddie Bauer V6. The factory 4 pin seems to have an unused blue wire taped next to the plug and I did find a gray plug under the dash Im assuming is for the brake controller. Do I just need a 7 pin adapter and the brake controller with adapter plug? Or will I still need the ETBC7 kit to run a wire from the back to the front? Please see attached images for controller plug and 4 pin with blue wire.

The information we have for your 2006 Ford Explorer is that if it does not come with a 7-way the brake controller wiring isn't complete and and if you tried to plug in a controller the circuits wouldn't be active. Only way we can recommend is to use the # ETBC7 which will conver the 4-way to a 7-way and come with everything needed to hardwire in a controller.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller part # 90195. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes. This will be the last brake controller you buy. It can easily be transferred to future vehicles as well.
