Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System Installation and Operation for Travel Trailer

Question:

I just bought my first camper, a 32 foot travel trailer and had the dealer install an E2 stabilizer hitch. My tow vehicle is a 2009 F150, rated to pull 9700 lbs. the trailer weighs 7880 fully loaded. After two outings I noticed some wear on the stabilizer L brackets mounted on the trailer where the round stabilizer bars rest. See pictures. I know friction is what controls the anti sway process but was curious if these wear marks are normal. If the wear marks aren’t normal, do the marks indicate I’m not loading the trailer properly? I really haven’t had too much “stuff” of any considerable weight in the storage compartments of the trailer yet. There are storage bays at both the front and rear of the trailer. Anxious to see your feedback.

When using a weight distribution system like the Fastway e2 # FA94-00-1061, your L-brackets are used with the bars to help control sway. Unfortunately your photos did not come through, but wear is normal...grooves are not. Not knowing what system you actually have, I have linked the above part as the most likely fit for your trailer weight. Normally the tongue weight of a trailer is between 10 and 15% of the trailer weight when loaded and you also need to add to that tongue weight any cargo behind the rear axle of your F-150. That cargo weight is also transferred to the total tongue weight of your weight distribution system.

You want that total tongue weight to be in the middle of the range for your system. Many RV dealers don't do well with getting people the correct system for their trailer. I've attached an article to further assist. It is possible that you need to move up to the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion # FA92-00-1200 depending on your total tongue weight of your combined setup.
