Installation of Rack Security Strap of Yakima Fullback Y02633 Trunk-Mount Bike Rack

Question:

We did our research on bike carriers and decided on the Yakima Fullback. We picked the Fullback because it can be locked to the car. However when we went to put it on the security strap rubber end will not fit through the small gap between the car and the hatch on our 2014 Subaru Outback. I see how it is supposed to work but the gap on this car is very narrow. The locking piece was why we bought the Fullback rather than the halfback. Is there a trick I am just not seeing?

The security strap on the Yakima FullBack racks # Y02633 and # Y02634 can be installed either above the top of the rear hatch or below the bottom of the rear hatch, just above the bumper. Yakima considers either location suitable. You can place the looped end of the strap on whatever part of the rack frame that allows for easiest installation.
