Is the hitch pin on this model threaded? Are tools required to remove the pin/rack from the hitch?

Yes, the hitch pin for the Rhino-Rack 2 Bike Rack # RRRBC045 is threaded. You could hand tighten it an not use tools but to get the full effect of the anti-rattle capabilities you would use a tool to tighten and remove the pin. I have linked a video review of this rack for you.
