For your 2004 Ford F-150, I recommend the Roadmaster XL Base Plates, # 495-1A. These base plates fit the XL, XLT, and Lariat models. There are no base plates available for the STX, FX4, or Harley Davidson models.

In addition to a base plate kit, you will need a tow bar, safety cables, wiring or lighting kit, and a supplemental braking system.

For a tow bar that is compatible with the XL base plates, I recommend the RoadMaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar, # RM-520. It is the most popular tow bar for XL base plates. This is a non-binding tow bar which makes for easier hookup and disconnecting.

The Roadmaster Coiled Safety Cables, part # RM-643, will keep your vehicle attached to your motor home in the event your tow bar were to disconnect from the hitch ball.

For lighting, you could use the Magnetic Towing Light Kit, part # RM-2120. If you plan to tow your F-150 often, I would recommend the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit, part # RM-154 as it would just plug into your vehicle each time you tow.

Most states require the use of a supplemental braking system when flat-towing a vehicle. I would recommend the RoadmasteR Portable Braking System, part # RM-9400, which will help you slow down and reduce wear of the brakes on your tow vehicle.

You will want to contact your Ford dealership for additional steps needed to take when flat-towing. Some vehicles must be equipped with a transmission lube pump, axle disconnect or free-wheeling hubs before being flat-towed.

I have linked an FAQ on flat-towing and a video review of the RoadMaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar, part # RM-520.
