Bike Rack Recommendation for 2018 BMW X3

Question:

I have 2 bikes that have a total weight of 80 lbs. Metal clips will not fit on top or bottom, so an anchor fittings are required. What would be my best high quality option? Thanks.

For bikes that heavy I would not recommend a trunk mounted bike rack for your brand new 2018 BMW X3. Biggest reason is that none of our trunk mounted bike racks have higher capacities than 35 lbs per bike. Second being that even if you could carry that much weight it would most likely damage body panels of your vehicle.

The best option is a hitch mounted bike rack as they are rated higher and offer a much more secure way to carry the bikes.

I really like the Saris SuperClamp EX part # SA4025F.

This is a platform bike rack that only touches the bike at the tires and only weighs 35 lbs. The biggest drawback to platform bike racks has always been the weight of them, but with this rack you get the best of both worlds. The preferred attachment style with the lighter weight.

For a hitch then I would recommend the Draw Tite part # 76226 which is a confirmed fit and does not require the use of a stabilizer strap when carrying a bike rack like the Curt equivalent does.
