Replacement Leaf Spring Recommendation for 4,400 lb Trailer Axle

Question:

Hi, I have a double eye 26-1/2inch center to center 1-3/4inch wide spring on a tandem AlKo 4400 lb axle. Does the spring typically have the exact same weight rating as the axle? I see multiple spring weights and need OEM replacement to match my 2006 Keystone Cougar 5th wheel 285EFS. Can you recommend a part number to match existing?

Expert Reply:

With trailer leaf spring replacement you want to go with at least the same weight capacity as the axle with going a little bit over being acceptable. Next you'll want to match the length as best as possible while keeping in mind that leaf springs tend to stretch a bit over time as they wear out.

So based on that you'd want the leaf spring part # e27SR which is 26 inches long and has a 4,500 lb weight capacity.
