Recommended Transmission Cooler for 2012 GMC Yukon

Question:

Although my Yukon has factory tow kit it doesnt have a trans cooler. I found that out in a hurry when I towed it in some heat. I bought my trailer in March, towing it home trans temp never got over 175. I have a 5300 lb Passport 2670BH travel trailer, tow vehicle is a GMC Yukon 2012 5.3l. We were attempting to tow it to TN from MI and as we were heading south through Michigan I noticed the trans temps were exceeding 220. I knew Id never get it through the hills of KY and TN, I also thought I just had too much weight loaded in it and the tow vehicle. I tried towing it back with all the extra weight removed, but, this time it even caused the engine temps to rise to around 240, I dont even want to know how high the trans temps were. I need your expert advice on whether the FLX4126 trans cooler is right for my 2012 Yukon SLT and what all Ill need to install it, thanks.

The Flex-a-Lite FLX4126 will work for your 2012 GMC Yukon and comes with the necessary parts needed for installation, though there is a better option I recommend you.

The Derale # D13504 is a plate-and-fin style cooler, which is a more efficient option than the tube-and-fin style that the Flex-a-lite is. The difference is that the plate-and-fin style cools better because smaller and flatter plates allow more fluid to be cooled. Additionally, the bigger the transmission cooler the better, and the Derale is 11" wide x 12" tall x 7/8" deep.

The only thing you will need for this transmission cooler is the Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting for GM # D13035.

I've added a link to a help article on transmission coolers for you to check out as well.
