Can Shank on Swagman XTC Bike Rack be Installed Upside Down
Question:
What is the vertical rise of the rack extension arm? Can this arm be installed upside down and still connect to rack mounting plate to provide an overall drop? Our use case is a front mount hitch and we are trying to lower the bikes as much as possible.

Expert Reply:
The Swagman XTC bike rack # S64670 has a 3 inch rise in the shank. It was not designed to be installed upside down so I can't advise doing so. I recommend a rack that has a straight shank such as # S64663. You would use it without the bumper mount hitch it comes with. On it the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest wheel hoop is 8 inches so depending on the location of your front hitch receiver this could be a great option for you.
