Tips for Pairing Remote of Prodigy RF Brake Controller with 2017 Volvo XC90
Question:
I have a 2017 Volvo XC 90 with tow bar and wiring done by the Volvo dealership. The lights are working even when the trailer is connected to the power module. The problem I have is pairing. Up to step 7 of the instruction all is well. With the power knob set to minimum I get n.c. flashing after pressing the brake pedal for a while and it remains n.c. flashing even after the trailer is re-connected to the power module. I have tried the suggestion to have the power knob set higher than minimum step 6 but still n.c. flashing even after re-connecting the trailer to the power module. I have tried different combinations without a positive outcome. I will be grateful for any suggestions. Thank you.

For German vehicles pairing the remote of the Prodigy RF brake controller part # TK94FR is just more challenging than other vehicles, but we can help. We have a few things for you to try that will get you going.
First, If you do not see displayed what the instructions say just keep going through the steps. Sometimes, it will not display what it is supposed to but it will still work if you go through the steps to completion.
If that does not work then you can try taping off the pin in the 5 oclock position at the back of the RF (where the trailer plugs into) using electrical tape. Then go through the installation process.
If that doesn't work you may need a 7-Way to 7-Way adapter, # 20142, which will put more load on the system and could allow the RF to pair up properly.
And if all of the above will not work then have a domestic vehicle with a functioning 7-Way parked right next to your vehicle and pair the RF using that vehicle. Then just move the handheld unit to your vehicle and tow the trailer with it and it will work.
