7-Way Replacement for 2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road

Question:

I just purchased the Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow Twist-Mount 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector - Vehicle End, Item # HM40920 for my 2013 Tacoma. I cant get the original plug disconnected. I see what appears to be 4 release clips but it doesnt release even after pushing these in. What am I doing wrong? Thank you.

The U.S. Car type connector that plugs in to the rear of the Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow Connector # HM40920 does use a locking tab to keep it connected until you choose to remove it. You can see this in the video I linked for you a the 1:40 mark which shows one of our technicians performing the replacement.

Some factory connectors on certain Toyota trucks cannot be easily removed. If you prefer you might use an item like # HM40975-11998 which can be hard-wired.
