Recommended Trailer Brake Controller for 2016 Toyota Tacoma 4WD Crew
Question:
I need help in ing the very best weight distributing hitch and sway bar for a 2016 Long Bed Toyota Tacoma 4wd crew cab. The trailer I want to tow is a winnebago with a dry hitch weight of 360 pounds and a dry weight of 3705. The GVRW is 7000. My truck has the towing package on it. I also need to know the very best brake controller for this set up. Any help is appreciated.

The trailer brake controller I recommend for your 2016 Toyota Tacoma 4WD Crew is the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This controller offers a great combination of legendary reliability, easy set-up and operation and installation flexibility. It even allows you to store brake settings for when, as an example, your trailer is fully loaded versus empty. In your Tacoma with factory-installed 7-way trailer socket all you need to install it is the wiring adapter # 3031-P which plugs in under the dash.
Weight distribution systems are best selected based on the ACTUAL loaded trailer's tongue weight (TW). Dry hitch weight can get you close but since WD systems are weight-rated you really want to know your actual typical loaded TW. Scale # e99044 makes this easy.
A trailer with a GVWR of 7000-lbs could have a fully-loaded TW of anywhere from 700-lbs up to nearly 1000-lbs. But if you will typically not be loaded to the maximum you might find a system suited to the fully-loaded TW to be too stiff for the partially-loaded condition. The good news is that it is possible to simply swap out the spring bars of such systems, like those in the Equal-I-zer # EQ37121ET, to allow use with differing TW conditions.
