Can Ultra-Fab Folding Spare Tire Carrier # UF15-954730 be Mounted on a Trailer Frame

Question:

I own a 2018 R-Pod travel trailer, model #179. I would like to mount my 15 spare tire on my travel trailer frame so as to fee up the rear of my travel trailer to add the Lets Go Aero BikeWing-2 2-Bike Rack. I purchased the MaxxTow Spare Tire Carrier, item # MT70214 which mounted just fine, but I fear the 15 inch tire hangs down too low giving me only approx 9 clearance from the ground and may hit the ground when going into steep grade gas stations etc. This product, UF15-954730, may do the job, as I do not need the off-set feature that the MaxxTow offers. The trailer frame is 2x4.5 so the u-bolts may be a bit long, but if the u-bolt threads run the length of the u-bolt, it should still work, as I could always cut off the excess. It looks like this product may give me the elevation/ground clearance that I need. My question is can I mount this on a frame instead of a bumper? Also do you think my frame will be able to handle the stress on the frame? If not, can you offer a suggestion to give me the ground clearance needed?

Yes, provided that the trailer frame is 4 inches square you could mount the Ultra-Fab Folding Spare Tire Carrier # UF15-954730 on a trailer frame. Since your frame is smaller (the picture looks like you started measuring at the 1 inch mark on the tape which would make it 3-1/2 inches tall and 2 inches wide) you would need alternate u-bolts and would have to modify the carrier for the alternate u-bolts.

I have no doubt that the frame will handle the spare tire without any issues.
