Can a Motorcycle Carrier be Used in Reese Titan Extension # RP45018

Question:

My 18 Ram 3500 has a class V hitch with 1800lb max tongue weight. I am hauling a camper with a 4foot overhang beyond the hitch, so would like to use this extension with a 55lb motorcycle carrier and 240lb motorcycle wet weight. Do I understand correctly that you double the weight for every 2foot beyond the hitch in this case 4foot X 300lbs=1200lb weight on oem hitch? This would essentially still be 600lbs below the max hitch rating? I understand the torklift superhitch is the best option, but I wont be keeping this setup for more than a year, and would rather not spend that much. Thank you very much.

In this case, with a 2-1/2 inch trailer hitch, you would go by the capacity of the extension, # RP45018. At the 48 inch length the tongue weight capacity is going to be 400 pounds. At 300 pounds you are still within capacity but I strongly advise tying off the rear edge of the motorcycle carrier to the in-bed camper or somewhere else to prevent it from bouncing up and down.

The best solution would be to put the motorcycle on a small trailer designed to carry a single bike. It will put much less stress on the hitch and will be much safer than a hitch mounted carrier suspended 4 feet from the hitch. We do not have that type of trailer but you can find them fairly easily online.
