Where to Position the Trailer Axle on a Tandem Axle Trailer
Question:
In your how to determine trailer axle position drawing: Is the tongue end at the hitch ball receiver or is it the front of the trailer deck? This is so that i can accurately determine the correct measurement D This is a dual axle trailer with 12 foot long flat deck Tongue wt is 285# total wt is 1880# From center of hitch ball to existing center spring/equalizer mount is 121.5 I used the tongue wt is greater than 10 formula and came up with, move axle forward 6.27 is this correct. My assumption was that tongue end is at the center of the hitch ball receiver.

The point you will need to measure from in order to determine the correct placement of a trailer axle will be from the end of the coupler on the trailer. I have attached our "Where to Position the Trailer Axle?" help article for you. Based on my calculation and your information, I found that the center point between the two axles to the end of the tongue will need to be around 127.5". This would mean the axles need to be moved backward around 6".
