How to Determine Hitch Classification for 2 inch Hitch on Vehicle

My receiver is 2 inches square and it has a 2 5/16inch ball

2 inch hitches are typically a Class III if they are on SUVs larger cars, and lighter duty trucks. If it's a heavier duty truck though it's most likely a Class IV. A good indicator is the towing capacity for the hitch. If it's up to around 8,000 lbs it's most likely a Class III. If it's up to around 12,000 lbs it's most likely a Class IV.
