Weight Distribution System for 2016 Toyota Tacoma Towing R-Pod 190

Question:

I am pulling a Rpod 190 with my ‘16 Toyota Tacoma. I want to add a Fastway e2 weight distribution hitch. I also us the Darby kayak carrier. Is there a product like the tow ball with accessory receiver you offer that allows me to use the carrier with a weight distribution/sway control hitch system? Thanks!

Though you will be able to use a weight distribution system and carry a kayak with your 2016 Toyota Tacoma, you cannot use the Darby Hitch-Mounted Load Extender to do so. There is not a dual hitch available that is going to allow you to use the Darby; hitch adapters not only reduce your current hitch capacity by half, they are not rated for use with weight distribution.

Insetad, you will need to add a roof rack and kayak carrier such as the Rhino Rack # S510. I have added a link to each of the roof racks that fit your '16 Tacoma as your options will vary depending on if your Tacoma has a naked roof or factory side rails, as well as the cab your truck has.

In regards to what Fastway e2 you need, you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your '16 Tacoma.

The tongue weight is typically between 10% and 15% of your trailer's GVWR but you'll want to verify it by using a scale such as the etrailer # e99044 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you. From there, simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle and you'll have your TTW. The ideal system would be one in which your TTW would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.

Based on my research the R-pod 190 has a GVWR very close to 3,800 lbs, though I do recommend verifying this for yourself. Based on that and depending on the amount of cargo you have behind your Tacoma's rear axle, your TTW could be in the 600 lb range. If so, the correct Fastway e2 is # FA94-00-0800, which has a tongue weight capacity between 400 lbs and 800 lbs. I have attached a link to each of our Fastway systems for you to check out as well.
