Red Wire for Brake Controller Signal Lost with New Trailer for a 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic
Question:
I installed a brake controller on a 2007 Silverado 1500hd which worked great until I pulled a different trailer. Now it only works manually and there is no power on the red wire coming out of the under dash block going to the module. Is there a relay that could be toast or a fuse in the system. All the lights are working and the cruise works as well. have read the brake light switch might cause issues ? Please advise need help.

I took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic and on page 599 you can see the location of the Vehicle and Trailer HighMounted Stoplamp (VEH CHMSL) fuse. It sounds like this is what went out and I recommend checking it to make sure it is still in good working order.
If you can't tell the status of the fuse simply replace it with a fuse that you know is working correctly and see if that makes a difference. Let me know if it doesn't and I can help you troubleshoot further.
If you are using a plug-in adapter like part # 3015-P then it may be that your adapter is malfunctioning and need to be replaced, but it would be weird that only one of the wires isn't functioning properly.
