Will the Weight Capacity of a 2007 GMC Envoy Increase When a Weight Distribution System is Used

Question:

I have a 2007 gmc envoy. 3.42 rear axle ratio. 4x4. If I have a weight distribution hitch is my weight limit still 5200lbs?

Even though some trailer hitches have an increased towing weight capacity if used with a Weight Distribution (WD) system, if your owner's manual doesn't say that it increases (which I didn't see in the online version) then you will still be limited to the 5,200 lbs of towing for your 2007 GMC Envoy.

I can say that when you are looking for a WD system you want to choose one that has a Tongue Weight (TW) range that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your towing setup falls in the middle of. To find the TTW of your towing setup you will need to add the TW of your fully loaded and ready-to-go trailer along with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Keep in mind that a properly loaded trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the loaded weight of your trailer.

I recommend the Reese Strait-Line systems, like part # RP66087, because they have cam sway arms that help to prevent sway before it starts as opposed to correcting it after it has already begun. Let me know what the TTW of your towing setup is and I can make a recommendation for you.
