The available nerf bars for your 2016 Toyota Tacoma, including # AAS222008-2, mount to the rocker panels on the truck. This location is not as strong as a frame connection but since the frame is too far inboard the connection has to be at the rocker panels. That would mean if you repeatedly made connect with the ground or something else while off roading then that connection point can get damaged. Also the bars are not solid stainless steel so I would not be surprised to see some dents in the bottoms of them, scratches and other things like that.

If you do a lot of off road stuff then you might want to consider some lower end bars such as # DZ371831 for a double cab or # AA202008 for an access cab.
