Does Prodigy P3 Brake Controller Stay on All the Time When Not in Use
Question:
I just installed the p3 in my 2016 Chevy Colorado ... Things went with install, but b/c Im hot wired to the battery, the unit is always on. Will that drain my battery over a long weekend with no charging going on? Or what would happen if I de-coupled the p3 to stop the drain....does the p3 retain the settings I just made through the manual knob? One more question...when setting the p3...I started -as instructed- at 6 and incrementally worked my way all the way up to 14...without getting the trailer brakes to lock up. They slowed the unit quite a bit but they never locked as I had expected them to... Any suggestions??? Thanks

Brake controllers such as the P3 you referenced # 90195 will go into a sleep mode after about 15 minutes of it sensing no movement. If you peek through the window after 15 minutes then it should be in sleep mode. Opening the door or causing movement to the truck could cause it to wake back up.
If you totally killed the power to the controller you'd lose all of your brake controller settings.
Weak trailer brakes is typically due to brake assemblies that are out of adjustment.
Check out the video (see link). Beginning at the 4:23 mark, our installer shows how to adjust your trailer brakes.
