It sounds like you will need to adjust the positioning of the brake controller and then reset it as if it were the first time it was being installed. The Hopkins Agility Brake Controller, # HM47295, needs to be positioned so that it is between negative 20 degrees nose down to positive 70 degrees nose up.

It also needs to be mounted in the direction of travel meaning that it can not be turned or tilted to one side. Once you have it mounted within these parameters, you can go through the set up process.

Have the truck and trailer on a flat open area. drive about 25 miles per hour and apply the vehicle brakes. If the trailer brakes lock up, adjust the power to a lower setting and re-test. You want to set the power to where it applies the trailer brakes but does not lock them up.

The brake controller also has a sensitivity button that can be adjusted from 1 for least sensitive to 5 which is the most sensitive.

You can also check the red wire connection. This is the wire that is connected to the stop light circuit on the vehicle. If the connection is not secure, it may not provide the full signal.
