Installing Brake-Lite Relay Kit # RM-88400 & Tail Light Wiring Kit # RM-155 on a 2016 Chevy Sonic
Question:
Im ready to install the RM-155 Bulb and socket kit on my 2016 chevy Sonic. I also would like to install the RM-88400 Brake-Lite relay kit at the same time. Im confused a little about open vs closed systems. I shouldnt have to go into the Sonics wiring at all I hope just connect to the RM-155 wiring. Could you give me a little more specific instruction on how to tie these two together so the brake lite doesnt override my turn signals. Thanks.

The Brake-Lite Relay Kit # RM-88400 is really only used when you will have trouble seeing the turn signal over the brake lights on your vehicle. If you check out the installation of the Tail Light Wiring Kit # RM-155 on a similar 2016 Chevrolet Sonic you can see that there is room in the part of the assembly that has the clear lens for the extra bulb so you shouldn't have trouble seeing your turn signal at the same time that your brake signal is activated.
With that being said, if you will want to install the relay kit then it will install on the OEM wiring of your Sonic and won't connect to the tail light wiring kit at all. I am attaching the photos of how to install the relay kit for the normally open and normally closed applications. What it boils down to is that the typical installation is the normally open option. The only time you will use the normally closed option is if you have a Ford or Lincoln that has a neutral tow kit or if your car has a push-button start feature that will not start the engine when the brake fuse is removed.
